Dental Hygiene

The hygiene staff at Total Family Dentistry are licensed, trained professionals who, with the help of the periodontist and general dentist, diagnose and treat various stages of gum disease. Good professional care and good oral hygiene are the keys to preventing gum disease. The signs of gum disease are not easy to see and can be painless. The earlier it is detected the easier it is to treat. It is recommended that you see one of our dental hygienists at least every 6 months. During a hygiene visit your teeth will be professionally cleaned and your gingival health condition will be evaluated. Please call today and schedule an appointment for a checkup.

Pit and Fissure Sealants

A dental sealant is a material that is placed on the chewing surface of adult teeth to help block bacteria from causing decay. The sealant material forms a protective barrier by bonding to the tooth, covering it’s pits and fissures (grooves) on the chewing surfaces. More than 75% of dental decay begins in these pit and fissure areas of the back teeth. Combined with good oral hygiene and regular dental care, sealants are very effective in preventing decay.

Sealant application is simple and painless and is usually performed on children as their permanent molars erupt, to help prevent tooth decay. Dentists and hygienists at Total Family Dentistry focus on prevention of decay to help reduce future issues of adult teeth. Schedule an appointment today and allow us to better protect your child’s teeth.
