Crowns/Caps

When a tooth has extensive decay or a large filling that is breaking down and leaking, a crown is necessary to cover and protect the remaining tooth structure. This results in a stronger and more stable tooth, preventing tooth fracture and possible tooth loss. In some instances, 2 crowns separated by a space are attached together by a false tooth in the middle to bring back a missing tooth. This is called a permanent bridge. There are many types of crowns and bridges depending on it’s position in the mouth, the amount of tooth structure it’s replacing and the esthetic result that we wish to achieve.

Here at Total Family Dentistry we use high quality dental labs that have the highest standard of materials used resulting in excellent cosmetic results. Our crowns are all 100% fabricated here on Long Island, guaranteeing us the use of biocompatible materials that are FDA approved. Call us today for a complete evaluation of your teeth to determine if a crown is necessary to replace your fractured or decayed tooth.

Composite white fillings

Composite “white” fillings are used to replace small to moderate tooth structure lost due to decay or fracture. Composite fillings are more cosmetically accepted as they are less noticeable than the older silver/black fillings. In some instances, amalgam (silver) fillings are removed and replaced by composite fillings to bring back the tooth’s natural luster and appearance. Call us today for an appointment to evaluate and see if composite fillings are right for you.

Dentures

Full dentures are used to replace teeth when there are no teeth left in either the upper maxilla or lower mandible. Sometimes one to two implants, in conjunction with a full denture, can help stabilize and allow increased comfort and function. During our comprehensive evaluation, our general dentists will determine if your current dentures are adequate and are providing you with the maximum stability and comfort you deserve.

Dentures are done in a series of 4 visits. With the use of impressions and measurements, a full denture is made carefully to provide you with maximum function and comfort to help maintain that healthy, well balanced diet.

When there are several teeth present in either the maxilla or mandible, a partial denture is used to establish full function and chewing. There are many variations in partial dentures including clear, non noticeable clasps that will make you feel confident and comfortable in chewing. A single dental implant attached to a partial denture can also help improve that extra hold and comfort. Call us today and schedule an appointment with one of our general dentists for a full evaluation. Don’t compromise your diet, because a good, well balanced diet can go a long way in maintaining good overall health.

Night Guards

Night guards are used for patients that grind their teeth at night during sleep. People with nighttime grinding habits eventually wear down their tooth enamel which can lead to tooth sensitivity or pain in their jaw muscles, also known as TMJ. Tooth grinding (also known as bruxism), can be significantly helped by the use of a night guard.

A night guard is easily fabricated in our office. A mold is taken of your mouth and a custom tray is made that fits snugly over the teeth. This tray is worn at night during sleep or during the day to relieve grinding problems. Call our office today to schedule an appointment for a full evaluation of your oral cavity.
