Root Canals

When a tooth becomes infected as the result of tooth decay, a deep filling or trauma to the tooth, a root canal is done to prevent further tooth loss. Root canal therapy is the removal of the nerve from inside the tooth’s root.

Despite it’s bad reputation, a root canal is not a painful procedure. Once anesthesia is achieved, a root canal can be completed without any discomfort. Here at Total Family Dentistry, our trained general dentists very often provide root canal treatment in one single visit. Upon completion of a root canal, a crown is placed on the tooth to strengthen and maintain it’s function. Sometimes there are no signs or symptoms to an infected nerve, and only an x-ray taken on a routine visit can show an infection, or a dying nerve. Call our office today for a comprehensive checkup and an evaluation of your teeth to prevent emergencies in the future.
